In an afternoon that celebrated what it is to be a Rotarian, around sixty people participated in the changeover of 2022 at the Boorowa Ex-Services Club on July 24th.

The afternoon will long be remembered as one of the best changeovers for Boorowa Rotary. There was lots of fun, laughter, action and even some tears.

The theme for Rotary International for the coming year (2022-2023) is “Imagine Rotary”, and guests were shown a video clip of Rotary activities that has been put to the music of John Lennon’s song “Imagine” which brought tears to many eyes.

Guests included District Governor Geraldine Rurenga, Hilltops Mayor Margaret Roles, Councillors Mackay and Piper, along with representatives of Boorowa Lions and other Rotary Clubs from throughout the area.

The changeover was an opportunity for the club to celebrate their achievements. Over the past two years, Boorowa Rotary has donated over $42,000 to local charities and organisations, including scholarships for Year 11/12 students at Boorowa Central School.

The club has also donated to the RAWCS Floods appeal, Ukraine Appeal, Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign; the Australian Rotary Health “Lift the Lid” on mental health project; Shelterbox; St Jude’s School in Tanzania, a scholarship of an agricultural student at university in Uganda, and many other organisations and causes.

Outgoing President Ilze Myburgh paid tribute to those who have contributed so much despite the pandemic, and went on to say, “I would like to thank all Club members for the support they have given me, and more importantly your ongoing loyalty to our Club. Thank you for fulfilling your role to a level that any Club President would be proud of, and your willingness to go over and above that role.”
