Preparation is underway once again for the Boorowa Community Bank’s Irish Woolfest, scheduled for Sunday 30 September 2018, where Boorowa celebrates its Irish heritage and fine merino wool. This event is now a regional tourism event and has developed as a key economic development tool for the Hilltops region attracting thousands of visitors each year.
Attendees will not be disappointed this year when Boorowa puts on a quality festival of top line performers and ongoing entertainment through the day. The Committee are once again offering a full day’s non-stop program of events and activities. Main feature of the day is the popular “Running of the Sheep” which commences at 12 noon where a mob of woolly Merinos from the renowned Merryville Merino Stud frolic down the main street of the town.
This is followed by a colourful Street Parade composing of some forty floats unique to Boorowa and surrounds.
It is a great time to start thinking about entering a float in the Street Parade, this is a great opportunity to promote your business or community group using a little creativity to add to the festive vibe. Another attraction where the business community can completely embrace the event is to enter their business into the Wool Window Awards. Application forms for both activities can be found on the Woolfest website.
You can expect to see almost anything at the Irish Woolfest. Enjoy the feature act SugaTree to soothe your soul and be entertained. They are a high-class act and recent winners of the 2018 New Celtic Talent of the Year and Song of the Year at the Australian Celtic Awards this year. The Canberra Celtic Pipe Band and Canobolas Highland Pipe Band will also be performing throughout the day.
