Boorowa Multi-Purpose Service (MPS) has welcomed a number of new staff to the team who have brought with them a wide range of experience and knowledge.
Acting Facility Manager Jocelyn Piper said the new staff include Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Administration staff and Hotel Services Staff. With them they bring a wealth of knowledge and skills.
The staff at Boorowa MPS include Visiting Medical Officers, a Visiting Pharmacist, Registered and Enrolled Nurses, Assistants in Nursing, administrative and maintenance staff, management and the Healthshare food, hotel and linen service team.
“In our Residential Aged Care unit, we also have an Activities Officer who provides diversional therapy to our residents, including small day trips,” Jocelyn said.
Jocelyn said the MPS has upgraded the garden in the courtyard for both patients and residents, who are now enjoying gardening activities and the fresh air and sunshine. “As a team, we work together to ensure we provide the best possible care for patients who present to Boorowa MPS,” Jocelyn said.
The community is reminded the Emergency Department will be open 24 hours, seven days to provide emergency care during the holiday period.
Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) works in collaboration with private General Practitioner (GP) practices to provide a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) Monday to Friday. On occasions when a doctor is not available to work on-call at the hospital, staff put into effect the Clinical Operations Standard Operating Procedure (COSOPS) policy, which is a clear critical care pathway implemented by all small hospitals across the State.
Patients who arrive at an ED where there is no doctor are assessed and treated by highly qualified Registered Nurses (RN) trained in emergency care. Patients requiring a higher level of care will be transferred to another hospital: from Boorowa, patients are able to choose to go to either Canberra or Wagga Wagga.
The RNs are supported by clinical staff at the MLHD Patient Flow Unit, who provide advice and support by telephone and telehealth cameras, and also coordinate the timely transfer of any patients needing further medical assessment to the most suitable nearby hospital.
The COSOPS policy includes notifying the Ambulance Service and surrounding hospitals if patients require transfer to another facility for further treatment.
