Draft Hilltops 2040 on public exhibition

Hilltops Council have released the draft strategic plan titled Draft Hilltops 2040 for public exhibition.

When completed, the plan will set the direction for planning decisions in the Hilltops for the next twenty years.

The Council is seeking public input into the objectives, priorities and actions for land use planning in Hilltops, including those for Boorowa, Harden-Murrumburrah and Young.

These are intended to reflect and respond to the specific strengths, challenges and opportunities confronting each town and provide the specific planning directions required to support and sustain community goals and expectations well into the future. This includes how each town will accommodate a range of housing, employment, commercial and industrial opportunities with the right infrastructure to support them. Also, how the individual character and values each community has identified as important to the livability of their towns are protected.

The Draft Hilltops 2040 introduces town narratives for Boorowa, Harden-Murrumburrah and Young, which outline the state of its residential, commercial and industrial sectors, community facilities and open spaces. The narratives also note key aspects that characterize each town and outline locations that are most likely to accommodate future growth and what this may look like. The narratives are supported by strategic plans for each of the towns identifying various precincts and their intended roles. Draft concept plans are also provided to illustrate the potential form and use of future growth areas.

Following public consultation, the Draft Hilltops 2040 will be amended and finalised, with its content setting the direction for a consolidated Hilltops Local Environmental Plan (LEP) and new Hilltops Development Control Plan (DCP).

The Draft Hilltops 2040 document is on public exhibition until 18 May 2020. It can be viewed on the Council’s website at www.hilltops.nsw.gov.au under the ‘Plans and Policies on Display’ page.
