Phillip and Kim Kelly created the idea for Farm Sitters – Australia back in 1999, when Phillip’s parents after selling their property, were free to help other friends out to look after their property while they had a holiday with their children before they went back to boarding school. Four years later – Farm Sitters – Australia, was officially launched. Farm sitters provides a connection service for property owners who need to leave their farms for whatever reason with experienced reliable people to “farm sit” whilst they are gone. This business is the first of its kind in Australia which is owned and managed by people with vast rural knowledge and experience.
Many of the property owners – commonly say things like “this is the only way we can have a holiday” and “the sitters are professional, friendly and enthusiastic” and they always tend to remain friends with the sitter and continue to keep in touch.
From the farm sitters – Kim and Phillip commonly hear: “if it weren’t for your website, I would not be doing this work and keeping in touch with the bush”. The sitters really enjoy seeing other parts of rural Australia and they also like to remain friends and keep in touch with the farmers.
According to Kim Kelly “ From our perspective, we have been incredibly privileged to connect with great people – many of whom have become friends to us also, but also to help property owners, often when times are hard –
to get them some help and also to provide a platform for many rural people to continue using their skills and experience”.
