First Stars of Young Fundraiser

The fundraising train that is Stars of Young, competing to raise their donation quota has begun.

Confirmed 2021 Stars so far are Bridget O’Conner, Anthony Murphy, David Munnerly, Jason Brown, Kim Holt, Karen Thornhill, Nick Duff, Teena Whitechurch, Tanya Brown, Belinda Allen, as well as Lois Terry, Tanya Brown and Carmen Thackeray as TLC.

Funds raised will assist the Cancer Council provide the essential transport to treatment and accommodation rebates for Young residents. It also funds research and prevention of cancers.

Cancer Council’s Community Relations Coordinator, Christine Williams said participants are about to commence dance rehearsals and training from July and August.

“We are very excited to be hosting Stars of Young for the third year,” Ms Williams said.

“The new Stars are full of energy and imagination. It is so great to feel the excitement beginning to build again for the event.”

Lois Terry said she and her fellow group members are part of the Hilltops Regional Theatre Company. They all love to dance and perform. Ms Terry said they are “doing it for the community”.

“We’re raising money for a fantastic cause. We’ve all been affected by cancer. I have it in my immediate family and I’m doing this for my daughter,” Ms Terry said.

“One of the girls said ‘fun’, and another said ‘why would we not?’. We want to be part of the community that’s fundraising.”

The aim of TLC’s fundraising is to raise as much money as they can. Their first event is a movie night, with the screening of Mamma Mia! as a singalong and dress up night.

“I believe we’re the first Stars to kick off fundraising,” she said. They will be performing too, with an auction and raffle. It’s being held on Thursday July 1, at Southern Cross Cinema from 6:30pm. Tickets are $25 and are available at the theatre.
