Deep Hole Fishing Ambrose a Success
A modest but hardy crew turned up to support the charitable will of the local Deep Hole Fishing Club in their annual sports outing. Last year it was a successful Bowls day and this year it was an Ambrose event at the
Country Club.
Run on a Scramble type format in a 3 person team as opposed to the Scramble’s 4 person setup, this was always going to be a tough task. The fairway elimination stipulation for the golfer whose shot is chosen, still managed to baffle a few, yet the experienced campaigners were all over it like a bad fitting shirt.
The winners were two regulars and a wildcard who had a whale of a time on the course. Nathan Hawkins, John Hawkins and Craig Cooper lit it up with their very tidy score of -4 and a solid sized handicap meant they were always a chance if they fired. Claiming some fantastic fishing related prizes, the boys were very happy campers.
A great barbecue was on offer manned by Stan Wales and his family and thanks goes to Rodney at Coopers Choice Cuts for his support of the day. The secret birdie hole went to the team of Toni Filmer, Tam Kennedy and Craig Filmer for their efforts on the first hole, while longest drive on 17 went to Club Champion Ben Glover.
Nearest the Pins went as follows:
5th Tam Kennedy 7.12m
8th Harry Sachs 8.1m
10th Kevin Hoppe 2.6m
16th Herb Manwaring 3.43m
18th Matt Minehan 3.24m
All novelty events were handsomely rewarded with sponsors prizes on the day.
All up the Deep Hole Fishing Club raised over $1500 on the day and in keeping with their tradition, the winners nominate the charity. This year that charity was Harden Murrumburrah CanAssist. A worthy and popular choice.
Herby Goes Again Midweek
Not Herby Goes to Monte Carlo, just Herby Goes to the winners dais... again. Making a habit of his consistency and appearing on the leader board, the Club’s very own Maurice Manwaring has taken out back to back midweeks. Losing handicap each week is a mere hurdle with the over-achieving boy from McMahon’s Reef.
Doing it all by mere millimetres, Herby has again only just recorded a par round of 24 Stableford points on the 12 hole layout, but again it was enough to claim the lollies. Getting docked a mere 1 shot for the win, Herb will resume battle this week on a still very handy 10.
On a countback, the unlucky second place getters with the same score were Lexa Preston, Ron Kerr and David James. It appears Herb has finished a tad stronger to claim the day.
The random mystery ball draw went to Maureen Watts who has been out whacking away of late and it is so good to see her join the ranks.
This Week
The gents and also ladies will be competing for their March Monthly Medals this week. After this week’s expected wet, the course should be a little more receptive and should see some handy scoring. The weather is milder and golf is just great in these conditions.
The annual program is due from the printer any day now so it will be important to grab one for planning the year ahead at Harden Country Club for you, your friends and family.
See you there – Alby
