Hilltops Arts Incorporated Fundraiser – Bohemian Rhapsody

Cinema and Complex Manager Lauren Frith and Assistant Manager Luke Smithers.

Last Thursday night Southern Cross Cinema held a movie fundraiser evening for the Hilltops Arts to launch the completion of their food preparation area renovations. These renovations have been made possible in thanks to the Hilltops Council’s Stronger Community Grants. The fundraiser was run as the final of three that they have held this year to enable the replacement of some of the older pieces of equipment within the complex. The movie Bohemian Rhapsody was chosen as the feature film for the evening with volunteers and staff donning pink crowns to get into the spirit of “Queen”. With tickets almost sold out, the 140 guests enjoyed a smorgasbord of food, they were treated to a red carpet entry and a complimentary limited edition Bohemian Rhapsody collectors cup and popcorn box.

The Southern Cross Cinema and Arts complex is a community run cinema owned by Hilltops Art Inc. It is much more than just a cinema. They have a stage with lighting for drama, dance and musical performances, three different studios used for art exhibitions, dance classes, Tai Chi, art workshops and other creative opportunities. They are also home to the Young Society of Arts and the parent group of the Wombat Bush Poets. At present, they are currently restructuring after long term Cinema Manager Lauren Frith has sadly departed. They are hoping to fill this position soon and start moving forward with their strategic direction of servicing not only the community of Young but living up to their new name and promoting the Arts in the wider Hilltops region.

Chris Burnette (President) commented, “I would like to thank the Committee and the staff at Hilltops Arts for all their hard work behind the scenes in getting this fundraiser off the ground and the atmosphere that was created here tonight. All feedback has been positive, and the night has been well patronised.”
