Lions Club Of Young October News

October has been a busy month for the Lions Club of Young.
The Lions Club of Young has had a busy October with events and projects.
At the October dinner meeting, the guest speaker was Jenny Howell from the Young Food Hall.
The Food Hall has been operating in Young for 11 years with weekly food truck deliveries from Food Bank Sydney. It opens Wednesday from 9am to 12pm with customers able to choose 11 items for $15.
Jenny described how the Food Hall provides morning tea, social chats and connection and serves an average of 70 clients a week. Volunteers run food rescue from Aldi, Woolworths and IGA with Omnia Group and Boys to the Bush supporting the initiative but Jenny said more volunteers are needed to help with pickups.
The Food Hall supports those facing job loss, mental health challenges, domestic violence or have trouble managing money. Some people return to the service to volunteer after receiving the help.
The latest ‘Link with a Lion’ project was held at Robert and Julie Donges Shark Tank who opened specially for the occasion.
October is Mental Health Month and the the Australian Lions Wellbeing Foundation (ALWF) delivers health and wellbeing information to Lions, schools and communities across Australia through a range of projects and resources.
Publicity Officer Heather Miller said, “The project programme on this occasion was “Reflecting Back to Yesterday” and there are many items on display at the Shark Tank relating to our topic. Many a memory sit proudly on the shelves of the Tank.”
New member Libby Callaghan was welcomed recently. “She’s eager to contribute to our ongoing efforts supporting the local community,” said Heather.
“Additionally, our team assisted with catering at the races, further demonstrating our commitment to service in Young and surrounding areas. We invite others who would like to come and join with us in our commitment to support those in need.”
The N4 annual convention was held in Bathurst in October, with Lions across the district encouraged to attend.
“Lions members are encouraged to attend all aspects of the convention as we “Young” ones did recently. The conventions include a Flag Ceremony, the Annual General Meeting, an evening function and partners programme along with opportunities to hear speakers, attend workshop presentations and to meet and make new friends with other Lion members, and a memorial service for those who have served.”
“Membership is open to all people of the community. Clubs provide service or raise money for their community. 100% of funds donated by the public through fundraising are directed to the project for which they are intended,” said Heather.
