2017 was a good year for the Lambing Flat Regional Writers Group, members of the (FAW) Fellowship of Australian Writers. They gained some new members and had writers from towns around Young attend the meetings. One of the members launched another successful book, another won an award in Melbourne for a short story Women’s Crime Competition and they had a very interesting and helpful workshop with Dr Rae Luckie. A number of their members attended the Writer’s Festival at Jugiong. The 35th National Writing/Poetry competition was very successful again in 2017, with winners announced at the Young National Cherry
2018 is shaping up to be another exceptional year for the enterprising local Writer’s Group with lots of ideas for workshops, guest speakers, and monthly meeting exercises. For the Poets there are competitions and a link to the Local Bush Poets Group who meet and read their poetry at the Wombat Hotel. For Short Story writers there are competitions throughout the year and as a member of the Writer’s Group you will receive a monthly FAW magazine (The Voice), that will keep you up to date on competitions which include their own National Short story/Poetry competition, read winning short stories, find out what’s happening in other groups
and have the opportunity to join the Isolated Writers Group where you can participate in their Round Robin readings
If you are a writer or poet or thinking about it, the Lambing Flat Regional Writer’s Group invites you to attend one of their meetings which are held every second Monday at the Catherine McAuley Centre, Southern Cross Village, Demondrille Street, Young at 5.30 pm.
