Academic excellence for each student is critical at Maimuru Public School. Despite the difficulties posed by the restrictions around COVID-19, Maimuru Public School students have been provided with a challenging and engaging program of learning throughout 2020. We have been delighted with the successes all our students have achieved across a broad range of areas.
Year 4 student, Ella Steenbergen, participated in the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) again in 2020. She has maintained her excellent results over the last three years. This year in the mathematics assessment, Ella scored in the top 3 % of Year 4 participants in Australia. A truly remarkable achievement.
Ella is not alone in her excellent results. The students regularly achieve outstanding results in the Cowra Eisteddfod. Last year (2020 competition was cancelled due to COVID restrictions) the students achieved first prize in the Stage 2 & 3 Untuned Percussion Ensemble (drumming). The students also achieved a Highly Commended for their Stage 2 & 3 Tuned Percussion Ensemble (marimbas) whilst also including students from Stage 1.
Sporting endeavours are never far from student pursuits. The students participate in school, Young Small School (YSS), district and regional events. Tyran King was the Senior Boys Champion at the YSS Swimming Carnival in 2020. A record he has achieved each year of his four years in primary schooling.
Recently, Maimuru Public School received a Department of Education, Executive Director’s Award for its collection, analysis and use of data to inform teaching practice to improve student learning outcomes.
In addition to maintaining a focus on achieving personal learning goals, the students have also been very aware of the needs of others. During Term 3, the students raised $671.00 for Ronald McDonald House and the $1013.41 for the Heart Foundation.
With dedicated, experienced and highly effective teaching staff; happy, friendly and engaged students; and strong parental involvement, Maimuru Public School is proud of its role in the education of all students Kindergarten to Year 6.
The school welcomes any enquires regarding possible enrolments for 2021.
