Work on the northbound and southbound overtaking lanes on Lachlan Valley Way has now been completed.
The additional lanes will allow motorists safer overtaking opportunities on the key regional route. The NSW Government provided $6.9 million for the project.
Member for Goulburn Pru Goward said, “This significant regional road project on the Lachlan Valley Way goes a long way to helping address a high crash history, with 11 crashes between 2011 and 2016 including one fatality and two serious injuries, along this section of the road.”
Work began last November to realign and widen the existing road, with construction of a 1.2km northbound lane north of Kangiara Creek.
Work on the southbound lane near
Kangiara Creek began in January and involved relocating Telstra services and
tree clearing.
The NSW Government also provided $2.4 million to upgrade the road surface and $1 million for safety improvements, which include improved drainage, installing safety barriers and upgrading signage.
“Roads and Maritime Services thanks nearby communities, property owners and road users for their patience during this important safety work,” Regional Director South West RMS, Jonathan Tasker said.
