A further two games of the Mixed Pairs Championship were completed on Thursday.

Elsie and Neal Hines played Jenny and Geoff Holt in a semi-final and it was a low–scoring game with only one end having a score of more than 2 shots.

After 8 ends the score was 5-all and after 17 ends Elsie and Neal led 14–8.

Jenny and Geoff won the next 2 ends to trail by 3 shots with 2 ends to play.

Elsie and Neal scored on both of the final 2 ends to win 19–11.

In the game that saw Margaret and Ian Gailey playing Kathryn Betcher and Peter Watts the score was 10-all after 8 ends. The next 4 ends were crucial with Kathryn and Peter moving to a lead of 20–10 and they went on to win 32–17.

Also on Thursday afternoon there were 18 bowlers involved with some reasonably big margins.

Colin Chapman and Bob Ruhl won the vouchers with a 16 shot margin to just edge out Alan Gall and Joe Bargwanna who won their game by 15 shots.

Darryle Miller and Colin Powell won their game by 11 shots.

The smallest winning margin for the day was 3 shots for Milan Brankovic, Albert Carter and Ian Schofield and this gave them the $200 jackpot (which by unwritten convention they shared with their opponents).

The Guy Pickering Charity Challenge continued on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Wednesday night saw 60 players involved – most likely a record number. The winning team for the night with a score of 17 points was T’s Rule. On Thursday night 14 teams participated and there were some very close games and also some very big margins.

The vouchers for the night went to the SAS team with a score of 17 points.

Saturday afternoon saw just 16 players on the green.

Three of the four games had small margins with Darryle miller and Colin Chapman winning by 1 shots, Greg Woods and Joe Bargwanna winning by 2 shots and Milan Brankovic and Tom Preston winning by 6 shots.

Scott Douglas and Cliff Traynor had a margin of 11 shots and this gave them the $200 jackpot.

This also saw the vouchers going to Milan and Tom.

All bowlers are asked to check the notice board for information concerning a proposed inter-club competition to start next month or respond to the text message they received on Saturday concerning this competition.

Sunday Funday Bowls will be played this weekend. An entry form is on the notice board with entries closing on Saturday afternoon.

Due to renovations at the club there will be some changed conditions at the club for a few weeks starting from Monday 28th February. It is anticipated that bowls will continue as scheduled and players will be informed if there are any changes to the normal arrangements.

Recently BowlsNSW has sent out information concerning the Men’s and Women’s State Bowls Carnivals to be held 2nd– 6th May and the Over 40s Pairs qualifying events to be conducted 14th and 15th May. The flyers outlining the dates and conditions for these two events are on the notice board.
