Young Men’s Bowling Club held its President’s Day on Sunday. The Club was lucky to have a fine and warm day after the quite variable weather during the past week.

There were sixty–four players involved with teams from all clubs within the South Western District as well as a team from Cowra and a team from Grenfell. After a welcome from President Joe Bargwanna, play for the morning started just after the scheduled time of 10am.

Following the first game, the players enjoyed a very nice lunch prepared by the club’s Asian Restaurant.

During the lunch formalities, Joe Bargwanna expressed his appreciation of the attendance of the visiting players, commented on the Club’s Centenary celebrations to be held in May, thanked the caterer and bar staff for their work and complimented Damien Miller on the quality of the greens.

Following lunch, the players took part in a spider with the proceeds to be directed to a local charity and then proceeded with the second game for the day. After the second game had been completed, the overall winners for the day were the Cootamundra Ex–Services team of Kevin Medcalf, Steve Stanton, Terry Cosgrove and Geoff Hillier with a score of 25 points.

The South Western District team of Stephen Walsh, Tom Preston, Geoff Holt and Cliff Traynor were the runners–up with 24 points.

The two prize-winners for the spider were Glen Klose and George Somerville. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the day — the greenkee ers, Club staff, the caterers and to those Club members who assisted in many ways.

During the week, player numbers on Thursday were kept down by some morning showers and just fourteen players took part in cold and windy conditions. With the games almost complete, there was torrential rain for a short time leaving most players wet as they sought shelter.

Stuart Freudenstein and Tony Ruhl won the vouchers with a margin of 7 shots. They won a count back over Milan Brankovic, Terry Holmes and Joe Bargwanna who also had a 7 shot margin.

The other winning team was Albert Carter and Colin Powell with a 2 shot margin Saturday saw sixteen players involved with some regular players obviously conserving their energy for Sunday. The smallest winning margin for the day was 1 shot and this proved to be very good for Scott Douglas and Vic Brown as it gave them the $200 jackpot.

The vouchers for the afternoon went to Alan Gall and Peter Watts who had a big margin of 19 shots. Ted Loader and Brian Madden won their game by 12 shots and Brian Christie and Cliff Traynor had a 9 shot margin.

The draws for the District Fours Championships are on notice board with the games to be played at Cootamundra Country Club on Saturday starting at 9.30 am. Entry details for the District Triples and District Pairs are on display. Players should check the notice board for entry details for the Club Singles. The teams for the first games in this season’s Pennant competition will be selected soon and all players are reminded to check the information on the notice board if they have not already done so.
