The first game in the Club Pairs were played over the weekend. On Saturday Albert Carter and Mark Brownlie played Damien Miller and David Quigley.

The opening ends of the game were evenly shared and after 10 ends the score was 8–all.

Damien and David then scored 12 shots on the next 4 ends and this proved decisive as they went on to win 26–14.

A further three games were completed on Sunday afternoon.

The result of the game that saw John Cooper and Peter Watts opposed to Brian March and Joe Bargwanna was decided in the first 7 ends with John and Peter establishing a lead of 17–0.

From that point both teams were even with the final score 29-12.

Col Parker and Cliff Traynor won 8 of the first 10 ends against Ged Hardman and Denis Rosen to lead 16–6. The final 11 ends saw close to even scoring with Col and Cliff winning 25–17.

The third game saw Brian Christie and Tom Preston playing Phil Taylor and Glen Benson. After 13 ends the score was 13–all.

The next 7 ends were evenly shared with Phil and Glen in front 21–20 going into the final end.

The game was decided with the final bowl with Glen drawing the shot to claim a win 22–20.

Saturday also saw 12 players involved in Jackpot bowls.

Brian Christie and Stuart Freudenstein won their game 20-19, Jeff Jacquier and Geoff Holt won their game 16–13 and Max Penfold and John Cooper won their game 32–11.

The very pleasant conditions on Thursday saw 24 players on the green.

There were some big margins as some players took advantage of the excellent conditions.

The highest winning margin was 19 shots for Ned Kelly and Harold Anderson.

Brian March and Glen Benson won by 18 shots as did Darryle Miller and John Cooper.

Andrew Hutchison and Cliff Traynor had a margin of 14 shots, Albert Carter and Tom Preston 11 shots and Terry Holmes and Joe Bargwanna 6 shots.

This Saturday will see the first games played in the South Western District Mixed Pairs Championship.

Players are reminded that cards will be called at 9.00 am with play to commence at 9.30am.

The competition uses sectional play and each section will play two games on Saturday.

This event will continue on Saturday 15th May when the sectional play will be completed and the semi–finals played.

A date for the final has yet to be decided.

Members are reminded that the Centenary Dinner will be held on Saturday 22nd May and they can purchase tickets at the club and that entry forms for the Centenary Bowls events are on the notice board.
