The Zone 8 Champion of Club Champions Pairs was played at Narrandera last weekend. Damien Miller and David Quigley were the South Western District representatives and on Saturday afternoon they defeated Matt McComber and Brett White from Wagga RSL 27–5.

On Sunday morning they lost their semi-final to Ray Claffey and Matt Vicary from Tumut 23–12. The Narrandera team of Graeme McComber and Lincoln Gooley won the event with a 25–4 win over Tumut in the final.

Several Club Championship games were played during the week. On Saturday afternoon Stephen Walsh defeated Milan Brankovic 31–27 in the final of the Minor Singles. This was a very closely contested game with the lead changing 12 times over the 35 ends it took to complete the game. Congratulations to Stephen on his win.

The final of the Minor Pairs was also played on Saturday with Scott and Brad Douglas up against Brian Christie and Bob Ruhl. Scott and Brad led 9–2 after 6 ends but Brian and Bob were in front 13–12 after 14 ends. From that point Scott and Brad dominated the scoring to win 23–14. Congratulation to the winners.

The semi-finals of the Mixed Pairs were played on Wednesday morning. The game between Elsie and Geoff Hines and Judith and Terry Mulligan was close throughout. Going into the final end Judith and Terry led 18–17 and they won the game 20-17. The second game saw Jill and Denis Rosen playing Sheila and Cliff Traynor. The first half of the game was very even with the score being 10-all after 11 ends. From that point Sheila and Cliff did best to win the game 25-11.

On Wednesday afternoon six players from Young played with six visiting players from Kiama most of whom are regular visitors during Cherry Festival tournaments. As it happened, some of the local players caught up with visitors they had not seen for some years and others discovered that they had mutual workmates from years ago.

There were 30 players for Thursday afternoon including the 6 players from Kiama. Most games were evenly contested but the vouchers went to Jessie James and Ian Schofield who won their game by 16 shots. Craig Rolls and Bob Ruhl won their game by 4 shots to claim the $200 jackpot. Other winning teams were Milan Brankovic and Colin Powell (2 shots). Aldo Malvicino and John Cooper (5 shots), Brian March and Cliff Traynor (2 shots), Brian Christie, Ian Apps and Tony Ruhl (7 shots) and Steve Walsh and George Somerville (3 shots).

There was a small attendance for Saturday’s Jackpot play with just three games of pairs being played. The winning teams and their margins were Tony Ruhl and Joe Bargwanna (11 shots), Greg Woods and Ian Schofield (3 shots) and Max Penfold and John Cooper (2 shots). After play on Saturday a presentation of just over $400 was made to Gail Hanigan from the Young branch of Can Assist. Male bowlers who play a bowl on the wrong bias during a game contribute $2 to a special collection for charity and this time around the local branch of Can Assist was the chosen charity.

The final rounds of the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge were played this week. Tuesday night was really a challenge with the blackout inside – but fine and sunny conditions on the greens. The overall winners for the Tuesday division were ARMA Fabrications and Bowl Terras were the overall winners for the Thursday division. The two winners played off on Tuesday night.

In addition to our normal program there will be an Open Pairs event played on Sunday afternoon. All the details are on display at the club.
