They defeated Norm Honey and Stephen Broad from Albury 22–18 on Saturday afternoon and had a clear–cut 25–13 win over Graeme McComber and Lincoln Gooley (Narrandera) on Sunday morning. After a positive start in the final, they ended up losing 25–21 to Batlow’s Ron Rynehart and Adam Peel.

John Cooper and Peter Watts were the runners–up in the Senior Pairs. Their first two games saw them defeat Fred Markham and Les Waldron (Lavington) 27–23 and then score a 31–7 win over Bruce Russell and Ian Black from Narrandera. In the final, they lost to Noel O’Brien and Ross Maguire (Wagga Rules) 26–13.

There was a smaller than usual turnout on Tuesday for Melbourne Cup Bowls with only 16 players involved. The players enjoyed two games of 3 Bowl Pairs with a break between games to watch the race and light refreshments after the second game. The overall winners for the afternoon were Tony Ruhl and Les Fanning with a 27 shot margin and the runners–up were Sheila Traynor and John Cooper with a 16 shot margin.

On Tuesday night, the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge continued and ARMA Fabrications were the winners with a score of 15 points.

With very doubtful weather conditions on Thursday resulted in just 10 players nominating. When the rain came only one game was completed with Ned Kelly, Brian Christie and Tom Preston winning the game by a very big margin.

After the rain, Thursday night’s Charity Challenge games saw quite cool but fine conditions. Three teams finished with 14 points and the Boat Crew team – new to the event – won the count back over Kembali and Free Range.

There were 22 players involved in Saturday afternoon’s Jackpot Bowls. The vouchers for the highest margin went to Alan Gall and Colin Powell who won their game by 12 shots. Other winners were Ned Kelly and Graeme Edgerton (10 shots), Milan Brankovic, Mick Manning and Cliff Traynor (10 shots), Harold Anderson and Phil Hancox (6 shots) and Tony Ruhl and Brian Madden (2 shots).

Also on Saturday afternoon, members of the Young Lions Soccer Club played bowls and held a presentation of trophies at the Club.

Thanks to those members of the Club who were involved in top-dressing Green 1 on Friday morning – your work is much appreciated.

The Zone Triples Championships will be played at Ariah Park over the weekend. Good luck to Col Parker, Joe Bargwanna and Cliff Traynor who will be playing in the Seniors division.
