While the greens at the Young Bowling Club are available for play even though the clubhouse is closed there has been no formal play there during the past week.

Play has continued in the Inter–Club event organised by the South Western District with five matches being completed on Sunday in very pleasant conditions.

There were two matches played in Group 1.

The Young side travelled to Cootamundra Ex–Services Club and the scores for the three games (with the home side’s scores first) were 19–17, 17–18 and 18–29. These gave the Young side a win by 64 to 54.

There was a very rare occurrence in one game with Jim White’s team scoring the maximum of 8 shots on one end.

In the other Group 1 game Harden were at home to Boorowa Ex–Services. The Boorowa side won 67–56 with the individual game scores being 21–all, 20–16 and 15–30.

In the Group 2/3 division Cootamundra Ex–Services were at home to Boorowa Recreation Club.

The scores for the three games were 27–13, 25–18 and 15–20 to give the home side a winning score of 67–51.

There were very close contests in the other two games in the division. At Cootamundra Country Club the Harden side won overall by 58–56.

Results of the three games were 17–18, 21–23 and 18–17.

There were similar scores in the game between Boorowa Ex–Services and Young with Boorowa winning 56–53 overall.

The game results were 20–18, 20–17 and 16–18.

Not only is it good to know that the players are enjoying this event but that for 11 of the 15 games completed on Sunday the winning margin was less than 6 shots.

This competition will have a two–week break for Easter and the long weekend involving ANZAC Day.

The final two rounds are scheduled for 1st and 8th May.

All bowlers will be aware that when Bowls NSW made the decision to use the first six months of 2022 to complete State events that had not been completed in 2021 the normal Pennant competitions were not going to be played in 2022.

Two State Pennant competitions were set down to be played in the second half of this year – Single Gender Men’s Pennants and Single Gender Women’s Pennants.

At the Zone 8 Delegates Meeting at Wagga on Saturday it was decided that due to the congested program of events already scheduled for State and Zone events, and long standing annual club tournaments, that Zone 8 would not conduct a Single Gender Men’s Pennants competition in 2022.

Earlier this year arrangements were made for a group of travelling male bowlers from Corowa to visit Young and play bowls on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th April.

After considerable discussion the bowlers will still travel to Young on that weekend and will play bowls at the club on Saturday afternoon.

Men bowlers will be contacted to ensure that our club can provide competition for the visitors on that afternoon.
