The fine weather, good greens and warm conditions were appreciated by all 24 players on Thursday afternoon.

Darryle Miller and Col Chapman certainly appreciated the conditions when they won their game by 19 shots to take away the vouchers for the day. Two other games also had sizeable margins.

Milan Brankovic and Joe Bargwanna (with a little bit of help from one of their opponents) won by 15 shots and Aldo Malvicino and Harold Anderson won their game by 13 shots.

In closer contests Colin Stokell and Cliff Traynor won by 7 shots, Brian March and George Somerville won by 2 shots and Albert Carter and Denis Rosen won by 1 shot.

Player numbers for Saturday were not as high as last week with just 16 players taking part.

The highest margin for the afternoon was 9 shots for the combination of Chris Wright and Col Chapman. Not far behind were Albert Carter and George Somerville who won their game by 8 shots.

Scott Douglas and Col Powell won their game by 2 shots but the players with the biggest reward for the afternoon were Martin Betcher and John Cooper whose 3 shot margin gave them the jackpot of $200.

Fourteen teams were involved in the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge on Wednesday night.

Young Bees and T’s Rule both had scores of 15 points and Young Bees were the winners for the night on a countback.

There were also fourteen teams on Thursday night and fortunately the threatening clouds drifted away without affecting play.

A count back was needed to decide the winners with Boof’s Heroes prevailing over FATBBOTS when both teams had scores of 15 points.

Sunday afternoon saw a mixed bowls event in memory of Jock Rogerson.

The players taking part enjoyed the afternoon – great weather, two games of bowls and refreshments after play was completed.

Quite a few players wore some form of tartan for the games.

Jeff Jacquier and Ian Schofield were the best performed team for the afternoon with a total of 23 points.

A number of other players won prizes via a lucky number system.

Several years ago when coloured bowls started to become popular Jock arranged for David Styles to paint an old set of bowls in tartan colours and naturally told local and visiting players that these were specially made for him in Scotland.

The bowls have been on display in a trophy cabinet at the club and had their first outing on the green on Sunday afternoon.

Male bowlers are reminded that entries for the Club Triples Championship close on Thursday 11th November and the Annual General Meeting for the Men’s Bowling Club will be held that afternoon.

All members and visitors are reminded that under the current health orders they are only permitted to be on the club premises – both inside and outside – if they have proof that they have been double vaccinated against COVID–19.
