Sgt Edmund Parry of the bushranging era has been honoured in Jugiong with a street name dedication.
Jugiong’s newest street, Parry Street, was named to show the town’s appreciation of Sgt Parry’s gallant efforts in the name of the town after a battle with bushrangers.
The street sign was unveiled by Mr Gary Worboys, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Mr Brian Ingram, Mayor of Hilltops Council in a ceremony last Friday.
The ceremony took place ahead of Sgt Parry Day which is coming up this Saturday. Sgt Parry Day is a celebration of Jugiong’s history and represents the day Sgt Parry battled with The Hall bushranger gang. The Gang held up a mail coach between Gundagai and Jugiong, sparking a battle with Sgt Parry who was shot and killed.
Members from the Gold Trails Re-enactment group and the 73rd Regiment of Foot will be showing how life was on the Lambing Flats Gold Fields and recreating the shootout between Sgt Parry and the Hall Gang.
There will be music, kids activities and food and drinks.
Sgt Parry Memorial Day will kick off at 2pm and go through with entertainment till 8pm.
