The Young Town Band entertained a good crowd at the Town Hall on Sunday afternoon and their music was well received by an enthusiastic audience.
This was the first concert the band had conducted in many years and they hope to make it an annual event. The concert band comprised of 22 musicians including 3 guests who returned to perform with them.
The program included many well known movie themes such as Jurassic Park, The Polar Express, Pirates of the Caribbean, Chicken Run, and the highly renowned piece Highland Cathedral. The concert also featured three smaller Ensembles made up of band members, and the announcement of the Young Town Band Scholarships for 2018 which were awarded to Thomas Grainger (New member award), Nicholas Stokell (Regular attendance) and Cassie Boland (Masters scholarship).
Conductor Rodney Clancy from Canberra was extremely pleased with the concert and plans to enter the Young Town Band in a band competition next year, bringing back the bands’ old tradition. So the band will be learning new repertoire for that as well as the normal community events they attend annually including the upcoming Cherry Festival and Carols by Candlelight.
New members are always welcome so if there are keen musicians out in the community of any age or ability, the band committee would love you to come along to rehearsals in the Town Hall, Monday night 6.00-7.30pm.
