Over 700 stories have been received in the 2023 Lambing Flat (FAW) Writers Group Writing Competition.

This year’s Lambing Flat Fellowship of Australian (FAW) Writers Group Writing Competition yielded a bumper crop of 729 entries - an almost 50/50 split between adult and student literary offerings.

That’s another successful year, with poems and short stories from around the region and beyond making their way into the competition.

There were three hundred and sixty-five adult poetry and short story entries and three hundred and sixty-four entries from school students. Years 4, 5 and 6 had the highest number of entries.

The Lambing Flat Writers Group praised the budding wordsmiths and their teachers.

They also thanked their sponsors, Young Services Club and South West Slopes Credit Union, who made it possible for the group to award prizes of up to $200 in the Adult section and between $30 and $100 in the School Student section.

The judging has concluded and the winners decided - all that’s left is to announce the winners and present the prizes to complete the 2023 Lambing Flat Writers Group Writing Competition.

Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the Cherry Festival on Sunday, December 3 on the platform of the Young Railway Station at 10:30 am.

Get yourselves to the Cherry Festival and support the local poets and writers and perhaps spot the next Chris Hammer or Kate Grenville at the same time.
