On Tuesday the 29th of September, Young Riding for the Disabled (RDA) volunteers met to celebrate Mrs La Reine Beale’s 90th birthday.

The group of volunteers met at the Lambing Flat Chinese Tribute Garden at Chinaman’s Dam in Young to celebrate the occasion. Friends and fellow volunteers marked the special occasion with a sausage sizzle, a beautiful birthday cake and a relaxing catch up chat which has been missed by the volunteers while Young Riding for the Disabled is on hold for the year.

La Reine is an active member of Young Riding for the Disabled and has been for over 22 years. La Reine drives from her home town of Harden to the Young Showground each Tuesday and Thursday to help with mounting, dismounting and recording the students who attend lessons at the Young Riding for the Disabled. La Reine is also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, maintains a large and beautiful garden and is a prolific oil painter.

Young Riding for the Disabled lessons are on hold until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The decision was made to put the lessons on hold until next year due to safety concerns surrounding the pandemic and social distancing not being possible with students mounting and dismounting horses.
