It’s been a busy few weeks since my last column.

Last weekend, I enjoyed a great night of entertainment at the Binit Binit Education Week concert in Yass and then attended the Habitat Corridors Forum in Harden.

Recently I met with local member the Hon. Steph Cooke MP and the Hon. Sarah Mitchell, Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning to discuss education in the region and the joint use library facility. These discussions were very productive and it is great to know that the minister shares our belief of the importance of the joint use facility for the community.

On Friday I spent the day in Boorowa attending the Building Resilient Farming Communities Forum. Well done to Boorowa Landcare and guest speakers on a very successful and informative day, covering important topics such as farming resilience and depression in tough times.

On Monday I participated in an export workshop in Young with a number of guest speakers including the Senior Export Advisor from the NSW Government, the Commissioner for International Engagement from the ACT Government and the Head of Aviation at Canberra Airport. The workshop was designed for businesses starting out on their export journey and those looking to consolidate knowledge. It was great to learn more about the increasing opportunities for our region via Canberra Airport.

I am pleased to advise that the bridge works on the northern end of Tarrants Gap Road are now complete, allowing the road to be re-opened to all traffic. Maintenance works have been completed on the Wombat Road railway overbridge at the Harden end of the road at Demondrille with the road now open to all traffic. I thank motorists for their patience with detours put in place while these works were carried out.

The official sculpture unveiling and dedication of Major-General, The Honourable James Alexander Kenneth Mackay will be held at 11am on the 31st of August at the Light Horse Memorial in Murrumburrah. Community members and visitors are welcome and invited to attend. – Mayor Brian Ingram
