The Young Society of Artists’ annual Lambing Flat Sculpture, Wood & Big Art Exhibition is the centrepiece of The Hilltops Off The Beaten Track trail.

Member of The Young Society of Artists, Heather Ruhl, said that Off The Beaten Track came about as a means of encouraging people to take a wander through the communities of the Hilltops.

“We’ve joined forces with the Hilltops Tourist Information Centre, Southern Tablelands Arts and Hilltops Arts,” Mrs Ruhl said.

“Off The Beaten Track was developed to support the exhibition.”

“We’ve just closed the entries and we have about 130 entries.”

The annual Lambing Flat Sculpture, Wood & Big Art Exhibition is an open exhibition, accepting entries from outside the Hilltops region as well as within.

The annual exhibition is focusing on big art this year, but people can check out smaller pieces at the Burrungong Gallery which has just opened up.

“Anybody who is a member of The Young Society of Artists can show their work at the Burrangong Gallery and the works are changed every six weeks,” Mrs Ruhl said.

“We’re really hoping that people will be travelling around.”

“We do hope the trail will be an annual event.”

The five-day exhibition will be held at the Young Town Hall and will be officially opened by Deputy Mayor Alison Foreman at 7pm on Wednesday, March 16.

Light refreshments will be provided and Judy Barker will deliver live mood music.

Southern Tablelands Arts will have a mobile office set up at the exhibition on the afternoon of Friday, March 18.

This group offers a range of services for artists and cultural organisations and work closely with members of the Young Society of Artists to foster artistic innovation, excellence and promote arts and cultural activity across the Southern Tablelands.
