Wine maker Chris Derrez, Tom Mullany holding the Riedel Glass sponsored NSW Wine Awards Best Cabernet Sauvignon Trophy for the 2019 Ballinaclash Tom Cabernet Sauvignon and Adelaide Nielsen.

Local orchard and vineyard Ballinaclash has taken home the Riedel Trophy for Best Cabernet Sauvignon at the 2020 ICC Sydney NSW Wine Awards.

Ballinaclash won the award for their 2019 Tom Cabernet Sauvignon.

Owner Cath Mullany said, “We are delighted to win this trophy for our 2019 Tom Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a beautiful wine with cassis and blackberry flavours, intensified due to the dry 2018 growing season and then the hot and dry 2019 ripening season. With careful vineyard management and irrigation, these handpicked grapes have produced an outstanding Hilltops Cabernet Sauvignon displaying beautiful aromatics, delicious flavours and lush, velvety tannins.”

The trophy results were announced at an exclusive awards presentation at ICC Sydney last Friday, where 18 trophies were awarded to the best wines in the state.

The 2019 Tom Cabernet Sauvignon was in the running for the Riedel Trophy for Best Cabernet Sauvignon after winning a gold medal at the 2020 NSW Wine Awards earlier in October.
