Great news for Boorowa Community Garden (BCG) and the local community! BCG will be holding seven workshops following a successful application for funding from Murrumbidgee Community Health Network (MCHN).

MCHN are providing grants through the Australian Government’s PHN Program and Empowering Communities Program to support communities living with the impacts of drought. These workshops are open to all, young and old. It’s all about relaxing, enjoying a few hours in the fresh air, having fun, and learning some easy and low-cost methods to grow fresh herbs, veg, and fruit. Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.

The first workshop will be held on 6th April and will demonstrate how to make a water saving wicking bed. Participants will also go home with an easy to make wicking pot for raising young seedlings.

Following the generous assistance provided by Hilltops Council, plus lots of hard work from volunteers, the site is now ready to begin in earnest. A garden shed and shade house will be constructed in coming weeks, plus a 30 meter trellis for espaliering fruit trees. The Garden looks forward to showing the plans for the site.

Also a big thank you to the wonderful local businesses for their support. In particular, Bendigo Bank, Thompsons Rural Supplies, Thrifty Link Hardware, Kanga Hardware, Boorowa IGA, Stonehaven Furniture, Boorowa Tyre Service, MA Steel Yass, Boorowa Newsagency and Vision Concrete.

If you are interested in attending the upcoming workshop or becoming a volunteer, please contact David Evans 6385 1109, Ros Gibson 6227 2141 or email boorowagarden@gmail.com
