Boorowa Gun Club Monthly Comp Report

Boorowa Gun Club’s most recent competition day featured the 25 target Handicap Barry Cooper Memorial and the 75 target Dennis Smith Memorial events.
Both former club members played a big part in the development and growth of the Boorowa Gun Club.
Many members and visitors to the club have fond memories of the two gentlemen and representatives of their families are often in attendance, when possible, at the yearly memorial shoot each July.
The program began with a 25 target Barry Cooper Memorial handicap.
Three shooters scored 24/25 and had to shoot off for first, second and third place.
Caleb Stringer won the even with a shoot off score of 9/9.
Brian Frost took second place with a shoot off score of 8 and Amy Smith took third place with a score of 5/6.
The second event of the day was the 75 target Dennis Smith Memorial Championship consisting of 15 targets double barrel, 15 targets single barrel, 15 targets point score and 15 targets pairs double rise.
With a little bit of something for everyone, this is always a popular, and hotly contested, event.
The overall winner of event two was Jeff Nash with a score of 100/105.
Amy Smith and Tony Barton were tied on 98/105 for AA grade and elected to split the prize.
Caleb Stringer was the best in A grade with a score of 94/105, with Ben Murphy coming second with 91/105.
Kim Cox won B grade with a score of 91/105.
Second place in B grade had to be decided by a shoot off between Geoff Mason and Brian Frost both tied on 82/105 with Geoff taking second place with a winning score in the shoot off of 23/35.
Floyd Cummings was the winner in C grade with a very respectable score of 88/105.
Ian Crisp took out second with a score of 83/105.
The overall High Gun was tied between Amy Smith and Jeff Nash, both scoring 122/130 for the day.
Amy and Jeff elected a coin toss to decide the High Gun outcome.
Amy won the toss taking the High Gun honours, with Jeff taking the Veterans High Gun for the day.
The Ladies High Gun was won by Ros Bradford with a score of 104/130.
The Junior High Gun was won by Floyd Cummings with a score of 111/130.
Committee offered a big thank you to members and visitors who helped with the smooth running of the competition.
Amy Smith gave members and visitors present a rundown of her experience at the recent World Down The Line Championships in England.
She thanked everyone for their support
and encouragement on behalf of herself and Tracey Barton Stringer.
Boorowa Gun Club’s next competition shoot will be held on Saturday, August 24.
The program will feature the usual Club 25 target handicap and the South West Shooting Supplies 75 target point score Championship.
The shoot will commence at 11 am.
Did you know that Boorowa Gun Club actively helps new shooters to get started?One of the best ways to become involved in the shooting sports is to attend your local club.
If you are interested in having a try at clay target shooting, Boorowa Gun Club is open for practice for members and beginners every Tuesday evening from 5 till 7 pm (weather permitting).
All ages and abilities are welcome at the clubhouse and all people aged 12 years and up may participate.
Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Photo ID and some paperwork must be completed for adults if you intend to particpate or if you are bringing a minor to the club with the intention of participating.
All you will need to bring is some good, flat-soled shoes, preferably with a leather upper.
If you need glasses for long distance vision, make sure to take them along.
The club house is warm inside with a wood fire, but dress for outdoor conditions if you intend shooting.
The club is located on Ballyryan Road, Boorowa, approximately 2 km past the showgrounds.
Look for the red range flag and pop in and say hello.
