Students of Boorowa Gymnastics enjoy learning how to use the variety of equipment available to gymnastics students.

Carolyn Harpley started as a parent volunteer when Boorowa Gymnastic Club first commenced in 1995.

She retained that role for two years before the head coach moved from the area.

Several gymnasts had already been selected to attend a State competition so rather than letting the club fold, Carolyn took over its management and attained her coaching accreditation. Over the years, she has undertaken further training and accreditation in other gym sports.

Some parents and gymnasts who have progressed through the ranks have contributed valuable assistance with administration and coaching, many going on to attain accreditation as coaches under Carolyn’s supervision.

A number of those continued to work or train in gymnastics at other venues after leaving the club.

The Boorowa Club currently operates on Saturday mornings at the Boorowa Central School Multi-Purpose Hall, open to boys and girls aged 5 years and up.

Classes operate for varying times and provide activities on a variety of apparatus across several gym sports.

There are currently four coaches whose qualifications cover Recreational Gym for all women’s and Men’s Artistic Gymnastics and Acrobatics.

The coaching team includes:

  • Clair Apps, who has been with the club for five years and is a Gym for All Beginner coach;
  • Lynne Dray, who commenced with the club in 2000 and is a Women’s Artistic Intermediate Coach;
  • Greg Maber joined the club in 1998 - he holds a Women’s Artistic Intermediate qualification.

Carolyn and Greg are both qualified gym for all Intermediate and Sports Acrobatics coaches.

Carolyn is also a qualified Men’s Artistic Intermediate and Women’s Artistic Advanced Silver Coach.

The club’s gymnasts have successfully competed in club and interclub competitions, Regional and Country Championships, and Regional Selection trials for teams for State Championships.

The Club is open to any young person interested in learning more about gymnastics.
