The inaugural Meals on Wheels and Community Transport Meet and Eat event was a huge success. Christmas lunch in July is on the agenda next.

Boorowa Local Health Advisory Committee (LHAC) met last week to discuss important health issues and give feedback on positive health-related events for the town and community.

Topics discussed included:

  • Building community awareness of government health services, eg. MyAged Care;
  • Podiatry services to rural and remote communities;
  • Dental health; and
  • Meals on Wheels and community transport.

The discussion around awareness of government health services identified a general lack of knowledge within the community.

Boorowa LHAC proposes hosting another information Expo.

Boorowa Hospital Auxiliary received a letter from Kendall Sawyer regarding the shortfall of government support for affordable podiatry services to rural and remote communities.

Boorowa UHA presented the letter as a Resolution of the UHA Regional Conference in Wagga.

The Resolution was overwhelmingly supported at the Conference meeting in May.

All going well, it will go up for discussion at the State Conference in August.

LHAC supports the Boorowa UHA resolutions and has sent letters to the Minister for Health NSW, Ryan Park, Federal Minister for Health, Mark Butler and Steph Cooke.

Earlier this year, the Murrumbidgee Health Dental Van visited Boorowa Central School and St Joseph’s Primary School as well as the Early Learning Centre.

NSW Health is working with the Department of Education and other providers to offer free dental checkups and preventative care, to all students from Pre-School to Year 12 as part of a school-based mobile dental program.

The visit was a huge success with a large number of children being seen at all three locations.

The inaugural Boorowa Meals on Wheels (MOW) and Community Transport Meet and Eat lunch was held on April 2 at the Boorowa Ex-Services and Citizens Club.

Lunch was a huge success, with a great opportunity to meet new people and catch up with old friends.

Planning is underway for a Meet and Eat Christmas in July lunch.

Anyone is welcome to attend, whether a recipient of MOW or not.

Representatives from MOW and Community Transport will discuss how to access MyAged Care, register with MyAged Care and assist them in funding and continuing to hold subsidised events.
