Boorowa Local Health Advisory Committee digs into the town’s health issues.

Boorowa Local Health Advisory Committee (LHAC) met on Tuesday, February 13 to discuss the health issues that are important to the local community.

They welcomed the new Boorowa Multi-Purpose Service Manager, Nicole Summers.

Positives for supporting health in Boorowa discussed included:

  • NSW state-wide training program for all registered and enrolled nurses, to equip them to administer immediate Emergency Care and Treatment, in the absence of a doctor or before a doctor’s arrival;
  • ECAT training is to be rolled out in May 2024;
  • Advertising for nursing vacancies at Boorowa MPS has been well received and future recruitment of nurses seems positive;
  • E-script trial has begun (immediate digital transfer of medication scripts from the Boorowa MPS to Boorowa Pharmacy);

Visiting health services to support the Boorowa community mentioned were:

  • Discussions are underway for providing a workspace at the Community Health Centre for Podiatry Services to Boorowa;
  • A space has become available at the Boorowa Community Health Centre for a Rheumatology Registrar to work with Dr Kelly; and
  • Communications are underway to support Mental Health initiatives.

Community health and well-being measures discussed included:

  • Community Transport and Meals on Wheels Information Meeting was scheduled for 10 am on Monday, February 26 at Boorowa Ex-Services Club;
  • Concerns were raised with the restricted operating hours of Boorowa MPS over the festive season as well as the short notice of changes to Boorowa Community as well as Murrumbidgee Health. LHAC will be sending letters.
  • Issues with Boorowa’s drinking water were discussed and it was decided LHAC would forward letters to NSW Minister for Water Rose Jackson, Shadow Minister for Water Steph Cooke and Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor.
