On Saturday 22nd of April, the 8th Chris Turner Shield commenced in Belconnen.

The Boorowa Rovers and Roverettes were hosted by the UC Stars Rugby League Football Club to play a charity match in honour of Boorowa local Chris Turner, who played for both the Boorowa Rovers and the UC Stars.

Boorowa rugby league supporters were met with a beautiful day on Saturday to witness the wins of both the Rovers and Roverettes against the UC Stars.

Before the games began both teams stood in solidarity for a moment of silence for Chris. Starting the day off with a bang the Roverettes had an impressive win of 20-8 over the UC Stars. This win was followed by a nail-biting game where the Rovers triumphed against the Stars 32-24 winning them the Chris Turner Shield.

Annually the two clubs meet to play each other to raise money for Beyond Blue and to celebrate Chris Turner’s life. This day aims to remove the stigma around men talking about their mental health.

While it is too early to know how much the football clubs and their supporters fundraised for the day, it is safe to say that the day was a success with a great turnout.
