The 133rd Boorowa Show took place over the 3rd and 4th of March 2023, and by all accounts it was a big hit.

While it’s too early to relay numbers and the results of the competitions, the smiles on faces and the large number of exhibitors and stallholders spoke to a successful event.

On Friday all sections in the pavilion were judged as was the merino and Australian and British breeds sheep.

The pavilion housed competitions for Lego, horticulture, preserves (jams, jellies, pickles and sauces), the Pavilion School’s Display, cooking, needlework, knitting and crochet, handicrafts, photography, art, vegetables, fruit, farm produce and wool.

The Pavilion Tea Room was conducted this year by Boorowa CWA. The ladies, all dressed in the Show’s theme colour of pink, provided the public with a tasty array of sandwiches, scones, jam and cream, and a range of hot and cold drinks.

A mighty storm cloud came from the west at 10am and threatened to put a dampener on proceedings, but after a few drops of rain, it disappeared to the east, bringing a welcome dip in temperature.

Out in the ring, beautiful, glossy horses and smartly dressed riders and drivers skilfully performed their events.

In the sheds, the best of the region’s cattle and sheep were carefully inspected by expert evaluators.

The ever-popular shearing competition attracted well-earned applause as each event concluded and shearers wiped their brows.

The alpacas proved popular, especially with children, and the range of poultry and their premium condition were remarked on by many.

Show President, Louise Baer said, “This year has not been easy for people to provide ag show spectacles. Too much rain all at once; animal health issues that have arisen; late plantings; late arrival of hot weather; delayed harvests and shortages of labour are all problems that have added challenges to normal farm life. But we have come through yet again, so let’s celebrate with our annual show!”
