Over 105 people experienced a captivating recital by professional jazz singer and pianist, Emma Stephenson in Murrumburrah’s Ross Memorial Church on Saturday, July 23.

The audience was transported to New York as they listened to Ms Stephenson’s beautiful voice as it blended perfectly with the piano.

The songstress surprised the audience when she invited them to sing along to some of the most requested songs during her time performing in the legendary piano bars of New York City.

Those numbers were accompanied by her own compositions showcasing her musicality, humour and poetic mastery.

Ms Stephenson’s recital was the debut performance for the brand new SX6 Yamaha grand piano now gracing the church.

The supplier from Canberra was in attendance and expressed his delight at hearing the instrument played with such finesse in a building with superb acoustics.

To cap off the evening, the audience followed the tealights to the hall where wine tasting, cheese platters and a full supper delighted their palates.

Ms Stephenson also held a very enjoyable workshop for students at Murrumburrah Public School on the Friday prior to the recital.

She conducted the workshop around the piano, giving students an opportunity to learn about jazz improvisation and songwriting.
