Chauvel First Light Horse Ride Visits Young

The Chauvel Light Horse Ride stopped in Young recently, attending a presentation in Young’s Main Street.
Approximately 100 people attended the presentation of a list of names of men who were in the light horse from Young and District.
Local MP Steph Cooke and Mayor Brian Ingram were in attendance.
Kay McDonald from the Young & District Family History Group Inc. said, “We compiled a list of 67 names of 1st World War light horsemen who joined up from Young and surrounding villages, this was presented to Pat Leary from the attending riders.”
“There is a copy of this list in the Y&D.F.H.G. research room at 2 Campbell Street Young, available to the public. It was wonderful to see such a great attendance from the general public of Young.”
“The riders also visited Young Public School and the children from Hennessy, Young High School and Young Public lined Campbell Street to clap them off on their way to Wombat,” said Kay.
The ride then continued on their leg travelling 29km from Young to Wallendbeen.
