Country Education Foundation of Australia has recorded a milestone $10 million to transform the lives of rural and regional youth through education, thanks to the support of local volunteers to further their work in the Hilltops region.

The tireless work of volunteers, especially those of the Country Education Foundation of Boorowa committee, continues to see more and more students supported by the organisation that was originally founded in Boorowa in 1993.

In line with National Volunteering Week, CEF reports a rising number of volunteers involved in the rapidly growing organisation over past 12 months, with over 350 people now actively involved in the 45 CEF rural and regional committees throughout located in Australia’s six states and territories.

Local committees such as ours are also considering the Katie Walker Outstanding Service Award, to fully appreciate the rising overall impact of CEF in communities year on year as the average dollar figure of support for each recipient grows also.

Local committee volunteers are essential in growing CEF’s role in facilitating and advocating further education for the future generations of our rural and regional communities.

CEF board member Katie Walker said the organisation would cease to exist without the hard work of volunteers across the national footprint.

“Our organisational model relies on volunteers. CEF’s success is a testament to the diligent people who give their time due to a collective belief that education changes lives,” Ms Walker said.

“Society today is so time poor with such busy lifestyles across the board. I have total admiration for volunteers in communities who give so generously with their time. It’s been especially hard in rural and regional committees in this time of drought, putting extra pressure on wonderful volunteers.”

CEF presents the Katie Walker Outstanding Service Award annually to outstanding committee members in recognition of their dedication and tireless efforts addressing and raising awareness of the issues facing rural youth pursuing their dream of further education.
