Stars of Young is back, after last year’s event had to be postponed. The ever-popular fundraising campaign raises significant amounts for Cancer Council’s vital services.
The 14 Stars of 2019 raised a mega $71,000 via fundraising as part of the total $113,000.
This year’s local personalities are ready to put their talent to the test to dance for cancer.
“Stars of Young was cancelled last year because of the pandemic, but there is a renewed energy and buzz about this year’s event,” said Cancer Council’s Community Relations Coordinator, Christine Williams.
“Despite taking a massive hit in fundraising, Cancer Council continued to provide services to people in the Hilltops region. Our cancer support did not stop because of COVID.”
This year’s Stars include fitness instructors, a car salesman, insurance broker and venue function manager.
Confirmed 2021 Stars are Nick Duff, Tanya Brown, Lois Terry, Carmen Thackeray, Teena Whitechurch, Jason Brown, Anthony Murphy, Kim Holt, Belinda Allen, Bridget O’Conner, David Munnerley and Karen Thornhill.
They will all start to fundraise to support the Cancer Council from now until November.
Their training with dance teachers Leanne Simms and Gaby Capra to learn their steps begins in August; in groups and other individual lessons.
“A few other locals have shown interest in joining Stars of Young and discussion is ongoing,” Ms Williams said.
“The people of Young have embraced the Stars event with an abundance of enthusiasm and commitment. It is a real credit to them.”
Tickets for Stars of Young, to be held at the Young Services Club on Friday 5 and 6 Saturday November will be released closer to the event.
