I was pleased to attend the official opening of the Cranfield Oval amenities recently. This project brings to fruition a great deal of work on the grounds that was initiated by the Young Sports Advisory Committee with funding by the former Young Shire Council and has been continued by Hilltops Council.
The new amenities block will ensure that both local and visiting sporting teams have access to modern day facilities. This is another example of the great results that can be achieved through the collaboration between State and Local Governments.
Last week I met with Steph Cooke to discuss plans for a roundabout on the corner of Wombat and Berthong Streets in Young. This project will be funded by the NSW Government under the Safer Roads Program. I thank Steph for her assistance in securing this funding. Funding from this program will also be received for upgrades to Rugby Road and the Wombat Road around the Demondrille Bridge. Any upgrade to the safety of our roads is a win for the community.
On Sunday I represented Hilltops Council at a State Memorial held in Sydney for victims of the recent bushfires. The service was both moving and uplifting. Our thoughts are very much still with those affected by the fires. Closer to home, we are thankful for the rain we have had and hope there is more to come.
I will be travelling to Canberra on Thursday to attend a number of Ministerial briefings as part of the Canberra Region Joint Organisation. These briefings provide an opportunity to discuss issues of significance in the region directly with the relevant Minister and can result in great outcomes for our community. Some of the meetings include Scott Morrison, Michael McCormack, Josh Frydenberg, Anthony Albanese and Jason Clare as well as meetings with Ministers of the following portfolios:
