Over the past six months, I have talked about the light at the end of the dark COVID-19 virus tunnel. At long last it seems Hilltops is emerging from the dark without any outbreaks. Again, my congratulations go to all residents for sticking to the many restrictions which have ensured our safety to date. Stay vigilant and we shall continue to be safe.

It was pleasing to see the official opening of the South West Slopes Regional Fire Service Headquarters. Located on Burley Griffin Way, adjoining Harden Racecourse, this important establishment is Hilltops central including Young, Boorowa, Harden and villages. The headquarters has been in the making for several years and both volunteer firefighters and residents are pleased with the new and very impressive building. We all know that it shall assist in fighting fires in no small way and is a wonderful new asset to Hilltops. Thanks must go to the NSW State Government and local Member Steph Cooke.

Harden was again in the spotlight when the new Multipurpose Services Hospital (MPS) was opened for business. This state-of-the-art hospital replaces the old hospital, which served the district for many years and finally reached its use by date. Again, thanks go to NSW State Government and local State Member Steph Cooke who made it happen.

In Young, our new Hilltops Cultural, Community and Education Precinct —Library — is getting closer to becoming a reality and I believe an impending announcement is very close. This shall prove to be a wonderful learning opportunity, especially for all Hilltops youth, many of whom have expressed to me their desire to hurry up and build our new Library.

On Saturday, I represent Hilltops in Canowindra, sitting on the Lachlan Regional Transport Committee Inc. A top priority is to have the Blayney to Demondrille (Harden) rail link reopened. It is all happening in progressive Hilltops and my best wishes go to all.

– John Horton
