You could be forgiven for being a bit sick and tired (excuse the pun) of hearing about Covid-19 these days, but the truth of the matter is, the impacts of this virus will linger with us for some time to come. With the number of new cases falling, Australia is now on the slow road to economic recovery.

Whilst we all look forward to the days when a vaccine is finally available, for now, this pandemic has changed the way we live, work, learn, socialise and shop.

Our regional communities are home to some of the most resilient and innovative businesses and we will do well to remember some of the good news stories to come out of our current situation. We have businesses adapting to changing health restrictions, utilising innovative technologies to engage with customers and stakeholders via new platforms and in some cases, changing the way they do business entirely. Throughout the past few months, I have had the opportunity to engage and meet with many businesses forced to adapt in order to survive and in some instances, these temporary measures have been so successful, that they will continue to positively reshape their business going forward.

We need to ensure the ‘buy from the bush’ and ‘buy local’ mantra continues because our local businesses need our support more now than ever before. As restrictions are being eased and we welcome back visitors travelling to our region, you can almost hear our local business communities breathe a collective sigh of relief.

We all have a role to play in this recovery. Support your local businesses, promote them on social media, talk to your friends and family about all the Hilltops has to offer; fresh food, wine, stunning landscapes and unique experiences.

We are all critical to the road out of this situation and I encourage everyone to not undo the great work so far and not be tempted to throw caution to the wind. Please keep abiding by our health orders and keep looking out for each other.
