Hilltops Council and eligible not-for-profit groups are urged to apply for funding under the NSW Government’s Holiday Break program so that our students don’t miss out on opportunities that many of their city counterparts take for granted.

Regional councils and not-for-profit organisations looking to host activities for young people during the winter and spring school holidays can now apply for funding under the NSW Government’s Holiday Break program.

Funding of up to $7,000 for winter and spring school holidays will be available to 93 regional councils and other eligible organisations to cover the cost of youth events during those holidays.

The funding can be used to support a wide range of activities including sports or performing arts activities, movie nights and DJ workshops.

Department of Regional NSW Acting Director Charlotte Frew said the program had delivered and would continue to deliver hours of entertainment, social engagement and skills development for young people.

“We know how expensive and challenging it can be for parents and carers to find things to do during school breaks so, it’s important that the events and activities on offer are free to help ease some of the financial pressure for regional families,” Ms Frew said.

An additional $3,000 in travel loading will be made available to projects being delivered in remote NSW to ensure young people living in those areas are given equal opportunities to attend social and recreational events during the school holidays.

“Young people in remote and regional NSW need assistance in overcoming financial or geographical barriers to access those activities others may take for granted during the school holidays, and this program goes a long way to addressing those challenges,” Ms Frew said.

Applications are now open and will close at 5 pm on Friday, March 22.

The applications will be assessed on a first-in, first-served basis, and funding will be prioritised to eligible projects servicing priority youth groups.
