The Goldies rugby team travelled to Harden for the elimination semi-final matchup against the Red Devils on Saturday, August 5.

Every game between these two rivals is an instant classic, and this game was no exception.

Once again, the Goldies’ defence remained strong as they took the early initiative and controlled the majority of the field owing to fly-half Jamie Golden’s accurate punting.

They repeatedly attacked the Harden try line, but scored no points before Bullfrog took advantage of a few penalties, and the Goldies led 6-0 at the break.

Both teams displayed staunch defence in the tremendous arm-wrestle that was the second half.

Late in the second half, Hamish McGuinness swan-dived over out wide as the crowd shouted, finally causing the Harden line to fracture.

With 10 minutes remaining, Bullfrog’s conversion appeared to be on target but struck the post instead.

Through some strong bench minutes from Harry Gibbons, Bilbo Suttor, James Green, and Josh Carmody, the Goldies managed to hang on.

All players once again deserved points as they continued to go above and beyond for their teammates to keep the season alive.

Coaches, Cheese and Benny, were pleased with the effort displayed all over the pitch, but are aware that a considerably more difficult task awaits them this Saturday at Blayney.

The Goldies Army was in full force on Saturday and the club would like to thank everyone for their support.

Additional thanks went out to Sheany for coming over as the team’s trainer and the players of the Boorowa Rovers Rugby League Club for sticking by them after their rivals forfeited the match.

On Saturday, August 12 at 3:15 pm, the team would like to meet as many supporters as possible in Blayney to help cheer them across the finish line.

The guys appreciate the support from everyone present at their games, particularly the away games.
