Cassidy Claims July Medal
The Harden Fuel Supplies July medal saw a bumper turn-out from the gents and some great scores despite the softening fairways and faster greens. Shooting a very tidy 75 for a 67 nett saw Darrell Cassidy return to the winner’s circle once more, claiming the Fuel Voucher trophy and the A Medal for his troubles along with the Teetotallers Mug. Darrell was 1 shot off the best scratch in A Grade which was claimed by Ben Glover with a +3 round of 74 to claim the scratch winners premium ball gift.

In B Grade, Bernard Parker had a triumphant return to golf after a short spell, picking up both the B Grade Medal and also the B Scratch with 84 off the stick for a handy 68 nett. No doubt Bernie’s strength in his putting was on display as he carved his way toward a leaner handicap.

The ball comp went back to 71 nett on a countback which meant that even playing to your handicap did not guarantee a ball, such was the scoring in the bigger field. Balls went to Bernie Parker (68), Nathan Hawkins (69), Ben Glover (69), Ron Kerr (71 c/b), Jack Glover (71 c/b) and Dan McGrath (71 c/b). Poor Tam dipped by 3/5 of 5/8 of a bee’s whisker after a back 9, back 6 countback.

The Bendigo Bank Hole in one did not go off but Michael Baldry tried hard to narrow the odds somewhat with a sweet shot into 1.54m to claim a ball. The random carton draw was won by Peter Steinke after a card draw by Barb Beveridge.

Pat Walker claims Ladies Medal The ladies competed this week for Toni Filmer’s Trophy and once again it all came down to countbacks. Sharing 71 nets and 3 better than their handicaps were Pat Walker and Jeanette Elliott. Pat has prevailed to claim the trophy and as with most Ladies Medals, a putting comp was in conjunction where Pat also claimed this on a countback from Jeanette.

Must have been a tough battle between these two ladies on course.

Ron Kerr Makes a Midweek Statement Mr Consistent Ron Kerr jumped the pack on the Midweek 12-hole comp and claim out 2 shots clear of the field by the end of the week. Ron has tucked in a round of a mere 1 shot better than his handicap to be the only person to go low this week. Ron gets deducted only 1 shot for the win, and next week resumes on 11.

Runner up at 2 shots back was the ever-reliable David James who had 23 Stableford points while on 22 points were Grahame Taylor, Peter Steinke and Peter Steinke. The random mystery ball draw went to Jim Wright this week.

Claim the Dates Do not forget the State Qualifier for the Race to Bonville in 2 Person (Men’s, Ladies & Mixed Divisions) will be held on 20 July 2019. Have you got your partner lined up?

Time and places are running out for the Bendigo Bank Australian 2 Man Ambrose Championships nominations. Remember it’s first in, best dressed in this event and there would be lucky to be 15 team slots left. Paperwork is on the bar or on the Club’s web page and needs to be in with your nomination fee.

This Week The gents have an individual Stableford for Peter Steinke’s trophy. With his good fortune at the Medal one might be able to guess the trophy?

The ladies will be swinging their weapons for an Individual Stableford for a Country Club Trophy. The scribe and his bride are headed for their annual pilgrimage to the Moruya Winter Classic of Golf so we will see you on course in a couple of weeks. Take care and tight lies.
