Cassidy & Bates Round 1 Leaders
The gents lined up this week to contest Round 1 of their annual 4BBB Championships brought by the sponsors Jamie Cantrill & Tom Darmody. Jamie is a current Country Club board member and with his wife Caron have just brought the newest addition to their family, a little girl, into the world. Congratulations from all. The 4BBB Championship in recent years has replaced the 4BBB Matchplay which was a great contest but for some, harder than Chinese arithmetic to figure and play to along with a normal 4BBB on the same day.
The round 1 leaders have been at this caper for some time, so it’s no surprise that Darrell Cassidy and Robert Bates who had a great score of 47 points. Both gents had quite formidable individual scores also. Runners up on the day and only 1 shot back were Craig Filmer & Tam Kennedy who fired in a 46-point round. Craig & Tam headed up the ball comp with this score, then followed by Ron Page & Bernie Parker with 44 points and Michael Baldry & Rick Preston who snuck past a big contingent on 42 points in a countback.
It’s a tough old game 4 Ball and it can see you as a hero this week or a zero next week. Anything could happen in round 2 this Saturday coming. Who will get the rub of the green? Or who will tell the biggest lies about their capers and how they got there. See you there to help make it happen.
The Bendigo Bank Hole in One did not go off on Saturday, however the nearest the pin went to Ben Glover who shot one in to 2.7m. Normally a good range for the Club Champion to claim the birdie and the 3 points on the 10th, however a horseshoe throw out caught him off guard.
Heycox Again Midweek...
Now he is making a nuisance of himself. Greg Heycox just will not play happy in the sandbox with all the other kiddies. Greg has jumped in and made it back to back in the midweek 12-hole, par 24 stableford point competition. Greg is a sneaky little bugger also, recording his wins with minimal under par rounds, this week a mere 25 points. Whilst a great round, it means he is only deducting his handicap by 1 to commence duties this week on 24 (hmmn… still too high but time will tell).
2nd this week went to David James (23 points) in another podium finish, whilst 3rd was shared between Bob Stevenson, Peter Steinke and David James again on 22 points. A lot larger field eventuated this week which is good to see with the late glorious Autumn weather. The random ball went to David James.
New Players & Hi-Jinx at New Ladies Comp
The Tuesday ladies fun for beginners is really gaining traction and results for the last 2 weeks have now been handed in for the public record. A big thanks to Marj Manwaring for her vision and support of this growing clan.
In the previous week, the winner was Cathy Sanderson who shot a very impressive 54 for 9 holes, totalling 32 nett or 4 under her handicap and breaking her handicap by 3. Runner up was Jacqui Solah with a 60 for a 41 nett.
This week saw some new starters including a face fresh to town. Deb De Graf is understood to be an accomplished cellist and was very excited with her win on 14 different instruments this week, recording a 71 for 49 nett in her first outing at Harden. Jacqui Solah (the perpetual bridesmaid) was yet again runner up. The girls set off in the fog for this round last week which has meant that as from next week, tee times for this group will be shifted to noon. To continue reading visit 4 of the ladies did venture across to Young on Sunday for their annual Tournament. The course and the going were tough work for the giggles only bringing home experience points.
Pennants This Sunday
Round 1 of this year’s pennants commences at Cootamundra on Sunday. The team for round 1 versus Gundagai with a 10.30 tee off will be Tam Kennedy (c), Brian Wales, Tim Beveridge, John Brownhill & Nathan Hawkins. All the best boys.
This Weekend
The gents resume round 2 to decide the 4BBB Club Champions with an individual stableford in conjunction. This will be brought by Herb Manwaring & Eric Kuhn.
The ladies will be playing an Individual Stableford for a Club Trophy.
See you around the traps.
