Kennedy & Hall – Best at Backwards
This week, we saw a fun event played at the Harden Country Club, sponsored by the General Manager and his wife, Christopher and Dominika Longbottom. It was a very interesting day to say the least, with the entire course being played backwards. That is correct, backwards!
Tees were set up nearby greens and each fairway in succession, you needed to play to the preceding green, working from the 18th all the way back to the first. The most impressive gut punch occurred on the 2nd hole of the day, playing 400m from beside 17 Green to the 16th Green for a par 3.
Mindblowing stuff offset by holes like the 5th Green up to the 4th Green as a Par 5, all to get players thinking again instead of being on autopilot around the great course.
Players had their GPS devices on hand, playing them hard like a 14 year old texting their mates in maths class. No scores will be recounted as they are mostly irrelevant, except to order the field for the prizes generously provided by the sponsors.
The winner of the day went to Ashley Hall, whilst the equally vaunted Secret Six Holes went to Tam Kennedy. Both took away $50 Club vouchers. Close follow up place getters were regulars Ron Page and Kevin Hoppe, both claiming $20 Club vouchers.
There were 5 golf balls awarded to the field and these went to David James, Ben Glover, Jacqui Solah, Craig Filmer and Gerard Kevin. Despite gloomy on course conditions from the wet winter, the yarns and stories in the Clubhouse after painted the picture of what an interesting outing it was.
The Men’s and Ladies sections will tee up for the August Monthly Medal, competing in a Stroke event for the Country Club and Alexa Preston Trophies respectively. These will be important last minute tune ups for the players, as the 2020 Club Championships will be commencing the following 2 weekends. The course is in great condition with all this rain of late, so come and join the fun.
