Hoppe Hits Form on the Links

Why would you not be playing golf at the moment ? Seriously, clear Autumn skies, a summer of rain and a course in immaculate condition. In the words of Andrew Daddo – “How good is golf !!”

Last Saturday due to a number of unforeseen complications and program hitches, our scheduled event was not conducted, but a Stableford with growing numbers returning to golf, was conducted. Again, with the course fighting back at the moment, only 2 players played at or better than their handicaps making any score below your handicap at a premium.

Kevin Hoppe played well below his handicap shooting a 1 over par 72 off the stick and recording 39 stableford points for the win. Having played with Kevin on the day, I can assure you there were at least 3 makeable putts that burned edges, and could have made this a very special day out. Notwithstanding, Kevin claimed the day’s Country Club Card Credit voucher for his work. Balls went back to 33 points with Craig Filmer (36), David James (34) and Tam Kennedy (33) claiming these.

Dates to Note

With the program being settled at this weeks upcoming Match Committee meeting, and Golf Genius having recently experiencing a minor hiccup, the following dates and events should be cut out and put on your fridge until the program is available. Golf Genius will be amended to reflect these changes.

8 May 2021: Men’s Monthly Medal (Stroke) / Ladies Stroke in conjunction

15 May 2021: 2 Person Ambrose – Mixed Medley

22 May 2021: Mens 4BBB Championships Day 1 / Ladies Individual Stableford

29 May 2021: Mens 4BBB Championships Day 2 / Ladies Individual Stableford

5 June 2021: Men’s Monthly Medal (Round 1 Dempster Cup Completion) Ladies Stroke

As stated, a glitch occurred and the Championships this year will revert to a mid year calendar position to be notified in the Program when released after the Match Committee has settled on it..

Players should check the web site or in Club for when programs are available as with some recent staffing additions and duty allocations, a greater update frequency is expected.

Dempster Cup

The draw is done and if not on the Notice Board it will be very shortly. Matches required to have a result in round 1 (Round of 16 – see above) are as follows. In brackets after each player is their seeding from the qualifying round.

Players are reminded to play to conclusion, including sudden death if all square through 18. Results are to be agreed and placed on Notice Board by winning player. Your handicap at the April Medal date prevails if your handicap has got higher. If it has got lower, you play from the lower mark. Players unfamiliar with match play rules should ask some of the old Pennant heads in the Club.

Last Note – Registration each week

By now most players will have the Golf Genius App on their phone. Do not forget to check your group into a time slot before Saturday. When you arrive at the Club and you open it before your first refreshment, a simple check in on the App is required and that will fire you up ready to score.

If you are wrestling your technology, give the Staff a call at the Club or when you arrive. They are all getting training on the App and should be able to sort you out.
