Bates Edges Kennedy in Low Scorer
Conditions were tough on Saturday at golf, as the current polar blast shot its way up into the South West Slopes. This by no means deterred the hardy crew at Harden Country Club and notwithstanding the wintry conditions, a good-sized field presented for the Peter Steinke Trophy.

Nobody in the field played to their handicap such were the testing conditions on course and in the end a countback was required to sort out between two gents at 1 over the card nett. Robert Bates ended up prevailing on 35 points in a countback from Tam Kennedy who also shot a 35 point round, falling a whisker short on his back 9.

Balls went back to 4 over par nett or 32 points and were awarded to Tam Kennedy (35 pts), Craig Henman (34 pts), Ashley Hall (32 pts) and Michael Baldry (32 pts). The Hole in One presented by Bendigo Bank did not go off however a very happy Ronnie Page got nearest the pin at 2.31m and collected a ball. Very happy because it was probably the first time he has hit the 10th this year… It’s trusted the birdie was taken and not a 4 putt?

Bob Martin Streets Field Midweek
The keen midweekers were out amongst it during the week as the cold conditions continued. Best of the hardy souls was Bob Martin who lapped the field to present a 28 stableford round to the judges. This round was 4 shots better than Bob’s handicap in this 12 hole, par 24 point format and 3 shots clear of his nearest rival. Bob’s handicap is now 4 shots lighter for start of play this week at 14.5.

Coming 2nd and also 3rd this week was Grahame Taylor who beat and equalled par in his 2 rounds. Sharing 3rd place with Graham at 24 points was Bill Kildea.

The random mystery ball winner went to possibly the keenest new golfer in the Club at present, Jacqui Solah.

This Week The state qualifier for the 2 person Ambrose Race to Bonville is on this weekend and the Club must qualify someone in each of 3 areas;

  • 2 person – Men
  • 2 person – Ladies
  • 2 person – Mixed

So it is an open qualifying event this weekend with the intent of getting a winner in each category off to the regional qualifier in these divisions. Regional winners will then go through to the state final later in the year at Bonville, a truly magic course near Coffs Harbour.

See you there!
