Page & Hoppe Victors in a Countback

Last weekend saw a good turnout for a Club sponsored 2 person Ambrose event. With the greens receptive and the fairways starting to develop some run, it was ripe for a blitzkrieg of the Ambrose variety.

Whilst scoring off the stick did not go super low, handicaps played a strong role in the deciding scores. At the end of the day, two pairs were tied for the lead, with a countback on the back 9 determining the victors.

The old well worn and rusted on partnership of Kevin Hoppe and Ron Page won out in the end, but as this scribe was not there on the day, the new Golf Genius App allowed me to dig in on the hole by hole scoring to see just how or what might have led to the countback victory. It all but jumped off the page at me when I saw that our winners had an Eagle on the 12th hole. No doubt we had Kevin’s drive, Kevin’s 3 wood second shot and a great putt by Kevin would have driven this result. Pagey only would have contributed moral support to that score, I am sure. I trust that got Kevin an extra schooner off Ronnie’s club card after the round...

So, Kevin & Ron got the Club Credit at -5 on countback from Ambrose specialists Tom Poole & Craig Henman. Tom and Craig led off the drink vouchers for the day having also shot -5. Only one shot further back and in the drink vouchers were David James and Super Swinger Jacqui Solah on -4. The last of our drink vouchers went to new pairing of Chris Whybrow & Tam Kennedy who played bang on their handicap for an even par.

Draft Program 2022

Our Committee is tinkering away at this years program and we hope by end of January to have it loaded on the web page, available in hard copy and pre loaded into Genius. Some patience in the mean time with some individual Stablefords and do not forget to have a run at the Pepe’s Duck Run 9 hole. Play it in conjunction with your comp round or have another 9 over the weekend. What great value – 9 holes and a drink for $8.

This Saturday will see an Individual Medley Stableford where all are welcome. Remember to book in through Genius or call the Club on 6386 2483 and the ladies will assist your booking.
