Hawkins Jnr In Form
On Saturday, the gents lined up for Matt Minehan Carpentry’s annual Individual Stableford Competition. Scoring was hot in the field with competitors needing to play better than their handicap to even claim a ball.

Coming out and blitzing his opposition was Nathan Hawkins, who on his day can shoot any number of crazy good scores. Nathan recorded a casual 42 points if you don’t mind beating his handicap by 6 whole shots on the day. It must have been a crazy sort of round though as he combined this round with his Dempster Cup match play round against his uncle, Brian Wales.

Brian has scored 9 whole points less than Nathan yet cleaned him up 1 up in their match. Work that one out.

Having a brain snap on the 18th for 1 point and recording 40 points to lead off the ball comp was Craig Filmer. Balls also were awarded to Robert Bates (38 points), John Brownhill (37 points) and Ron Kerr (37 points). Only a Hole in One on the Bendigo Bank hole would have won the goodies on Saturday as Craig & Ron had the markers well hidden (in the cupboard).

Dempster Cup Semis Reached
4 matches were wrapped up to complete the quarter finals in the Club Matchplay. As detailed above, Brian defeated Nathan 1 up. Ron Kerr snuck past Bernie Parker 2/1, Herbie Manwaring defeated Hawkeye by a good number and Eric Kuhn defeated Darrell Cassidy 2/1.

The semis now look very interesting and would actually be a treat to go and watch. Brian Wales (the youngest of the semi-finalists) will be up against the evergreen Ron Kerr, whilst Herb will versus his sparring partner of many moons Eric Kuhn in the other match. 3 of the semi-finalists are octogenarians proving old age and cunning will beat youth and exuberance every time! These matches need to be completed by 17 August lads.

2019 Pennants Season Slips Away
The team travelled to Gundagai to play Young on Sunday, in what had to be a compulsory win to begin a mathematical chance of making the final. The team tried valiantly, but in the finish the match slipped away 3 games to 2 with probably only 1 hole in the contest in the finish.

Tim Beveridge was up and down all match before succumbing 1 down. Nathan Hawkins had a wild swinging shoreline also before dropping his 2/1. Craig Filmer continued his season of handing out floggings by downing his man 5/4, Tam Kennedy came from 4 down to win 2 up and Wales had a day to forget equal to Craig’s score but in reverse.

The last round will be in Harden on Sunday week and the team will be selected next weekend.

Thanks to the team mates who always are keen to be a part of the camaraderie and great friendships that make the SWDGA Pennant season so enjoyable across the Clubs.

Ron Kerr In Form Midweek Also
The 12 hole, par 24 Stableford competition was played and won through the week with the always consistent Ron Kerr claiming the bikkies this week. Ron has shot a modest little winning score, 4 better than his handicap to take out the prize. Ron lost all 4 shots he beat the course by, straight off his handicap and begins next week on the sleeker model handicap of 11.

David James again on the podium for equal 2nd along with Ron Kerr’s other day score of 25 points, were not far back, whilst on 23 points were David James and Peter Steinke with 23 points.

As form would have it, David James may be simmering presently, waiting to boil over and claim it all next week. David also took the mystery random ball draw to top off a pretty handy week.
