Elliott Streets the Field
Last weekend, players vied for the GutterVac Trophy proudly supplied by Damian Shea who continues to ply his trade in the wider Hilltops region and continues his valuable support of Harden Golf. The event played was an individual Stableford and with the course starting to green and demonstrate its brilliance, the run is starting to disappear and the greens are becoming very responsive.
Everyone has been waiting for that moment that past Club Champion Peter Elliott’s game clicked again and on Saturday it did just that. Peter has brought a tidy little 5 over par home for a whopping 45 Stableford points. This was enough to whomp the field by 6 whole points with runner up Brian Wales back on 39 points. When congratulated after the round, Peter in his usual laid back style has been heard to say “I got lucky”. I think a few of us would like to get this lucky, regularly.
Balls went back to 38 points and were awarded to Brian Wales (39), Ron Page (38), Matt Peisley (38) and Darrell Cassidy. The Bendigo Bank Hole in One continues to get threatened each week and last Saturday was no different with the April superstar Bernie Parker dropping his pill in to 1.6m. Bernie got a ball for his effort.
Steinke Claims Midweek
Peter Steinke has been threatening for the last 4 weeks and finally broke through again, making it back to back weeks with the lollies. Not happy with first and third last week, he came out and blitzed again this week. Peter has had a round of 27 points on the par 24 point, 12 hole layout, beating his handicap by 3 shots. Those 3 shots have been thrown to the wind and are long gone with his new deductor being a mere 3.5 for duties this week.
Serial podium finisher Ron Kerr was 2nd and 3rd this week with 2 very consistent sub-par rounds of 26 points, setting himself up lovely for next week by his handicap still rising. 4th was Garth Webb who is shooting at, or about his handicap on a regular basis and was strong again at 23 points.
This Week
The gents will be playing for a popular team-based event being a 4 Ball Worst Ball, where the lower score per hole in each team is recorded and the highest team result is the winner. The sponsors of this game style and very successful at scoring in these events are Graeme Williams and Ben Glover.
The ladies will be playing an Individual Stableford for the Maryanne Fitzgerald Trophy.
